i’ve always been an impatient person. i’m constantly jiggling my legs under the table, itching for what’s coming next.
the clamor for instant gratification is probably my worst vice – i fully admit that. well, that and french fries. and tequila.
it’s why i give up on both workout routines easily and potential relationships, something i’m not proud of and am continuously trying to work on.
and even when it comes to the little things in life, like the 30-minute wait for pizza delivery, i’m the same way.
take, for instance, yesterday at work. i was discussing how BADLY i want any sort of smartphone (hello, LG voyager that can only text and take crappy pics) with none other than FG, then my mom called to see how my weekend was and catch up on life, and i had an EPIPHANY.
see, my mom, sister, and brother are on an AT&T family plan with a bajillion minutes and unlimited texting. my father and i both have verizon – we switched when he put all his employees on a business account and the AT&T tower at my school went down and gave me no service for over a month. i’ve had verizon for almost four years, with 450 minutes and unlimited texting, and they’ve been nothing but awesome to me. HOWEVER…
my plan is up at the end of may. i want to get back on that AT&T family plan and get an iphone. i want to play games and gchat and be able to facebook and twitter and foursquare all day at work since IT IS NOT ALLOWED. but i can’t wait that long, you see, so what did i do?
i did RESEARCH. i called verizon to get the lowdown on early termination fees, which is $175 minus $5 for every month in your contract you’ve completed. i have only 3.5 months left to go, so i’d have to pay $75.
then i called AT&T to see how much it’d cost to add an iphone line to an existing family plan, which is $9.99 plus the iphone data plan ($30) = $40/month, before activation. and then i’d have to buy the phone itself, which is currently offered at a promotional price of $99 with a new 2-year contract. basically i would pay the early term/buy the phone, and have my $40 monthly payment (which is $25 LESS than i’m currently paying) automatically transferred to my parents each month.
i emailed all of this to my mom, who responded with the usual parental views of “maybe you should just wait until your plan is up” and all that jazz.
YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND ME, MOTHER.
then she called me today and said she would be heading to the AT&T store with my dad this weekend – because he saw my email and NOW HE wants to switch over to an iphone “for business purposes.”
she said she’d look into it.
i could potentially have a shiny, pretty iphone in my possession in the next week or so.
NOW WE’RE TALKING.

I can absolutely relate on the vice instant gratification…I can’t even wait for leftovers to heat up in the microwave – I have to eat them cold. I hear that Verizon may be getting the Iphone in May/June. I have one now on AT&T and if it’s possible to be in love with a phone – I would say I have those feelings for the Iphone
Amen! When I want something, then damnit, I want it now. I recently decided that I needed to see Muse in concert, so I ended up buying a plane ticket to see them in Vegas in April. Guess who’s going to be living off of credit cards for a little while?
i do this with travel a lot. i’ll be all “hmm, i want to go on vacation…” so i’ll start idly looking up package deals, and 2 hours later i’ll have a ticket in hand and a room booked in antigua for a week. it’s the way to go
i have ZERO patience. i cn’t stand it if people are even 2 mins late. if i want some thing i also want it there and then why wait!!wots the difference between right now and tomorrow?!?!so you go get yours hun!
YES! iPhones are the best. I’d be totally lost without mine.
It’s totally worth ending the contract early. DO IT!
Patience is totally overrated. GET AN iPHONE!
Seriously, patience is way too hard. End the contract early. But be prepared to be in love with your iPhone. I love mine so much that, after winning the “who can break their iPhone first contest” amongst my friends/family, I paid plenty of cash money to get the screen replaced after it shattered. I’m not considering having someone knit me a phone purse/necklace.
*may or may not be considering
